Rest of India team selected, Sourav is given a break !

The latest developments involving the selection of Rest of India team shows which way the selectors of the Indian Cricket team want to tread. It was along the expected lines that the former India captain Sourav Ganguly was given a break only from the ROI team and it will be interesting to see the future course of action from the selectors when they meet to select the probables for the upcoming Test series when Australia tours Indian sub-continent for four match Test series and Sourav himself, as he has not retired yet from the game altogether and is automatically available for the selection.

But the decision to omit him from the Rest of India team for the Irani trophy has disturbed some silence on the burning issue of veterans in the team holding on for too long. There has been quite a lot of discussions and articles from various quarters asking for Ganguly's omission, Kumble's Omission etc. This will definitely mount some pressure on the senior players of the team who have done a great job for the team all through these years

According to the report, the decision to drop Ganguly from the ROI team was taken only after one of the selectors spoke to Ganguly on the issue and sought his views, and also after discussing with the India Test Skipper Anil Kumble and the coach of the team Gary Kirsten. And it was reported to be a unanimous decision. Yuvraj Singh is also one of the notable exclusion from the team.

The players who got selectors nod for the Irani trophy for the Rest of India team are Ashok Dinda, Bengal medium pacer who did well in the IPL tournament and Mohammad Kaif who made a decent 94 against the touring Australian A side.
